University of Rochester Laboratory for Laser Energetics

The Laboratory for Laser Energetics at the University of Rochester is a unique national resource for research and education in advanced laser and optical sciences, technologies, and applications.

The inventors, Robert Boni and Paul A. Jaanimagi, Ph.D., of the ROSS (Rochester Optical Streak System) instrument at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics at the University of Rochester have an international reputation for excellence in diagnostic instrumentation.

The LLE is the site of the OMEGA laser system, a 60-beam laser research facility that is nearly three stories tall and the length of a football field. OMEGA's beams focus intense laser energy onto a target that measures less than one millimeter in diameter in approximately one billionth of a second. LLE scientists use OMEGA to research high-energy physics.

Under its Industry Partnership Program, the LLE develops a marketplace for their technologies and students. Sydor Instruments is licensing the technology for the ROSS instrument under that program.
